SC orders medical test on Calcutta HC judge: Karnan orders back medical test on seven SC judges

NEW DELHI: Hitting back on the Supreme Court order to conduct medical test on Calcutta High Court judge, Justice CS Karnan said he will suspend West Bengal Director General of Police if he comes to check his mental health forcefully.

"I will issue suo moto suspension order against West Bengal DGP if he comes to check my mental health forcefully," Justice Karnan said.

Also striking back at the seven SC judges, who have ordered medical examination on the High Court judge, Karnan said he has ordered DGP, New Delhi to take the seven judges for psychiatric medical check up in AIIMS.


"I direct DGP, New Delhi to take the seven accused and produce them to psychiatric medical board attached to AIIMS and conduct medical test," Justice Karnan said.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court ordered medical examination of Justice CS Karnan on May 4 by a board of doctors, to be set up by a government hospital in Kolkata.

The SC bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar also directed the Director General of Police of West Bengal to form a team of police officers which could assist the medical board in carrying out the medical examination on Justice Karnan.

The bench, which also comprised Justices Dipak Misra, J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, M B Lokur, P C Ghose and Kurian Joseph, has sought the medical report on or before May 8 and posted the contempt petition against Justice Karnan a day after.
