New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice on a plea filed by MDMK founder and former Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko, challenging Election Commission of India's special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and justice Joymalya Bagchi posted the matter for hearing on December 2.

Vaiko has moved SC challenging Tamil Nadu SIR, arguing that the notification is violative of Articles 14, 19, 21, 325, 326 of the Constitution and various provisions of The Representation of The People Act, 1950, and The Registration of Electors Rules,1960.

It might be mentioned that SIR in Tamil Nadu has also been challenged by DMK, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and others. AIADMK has filed an application supporting SIR.
