New Delhi:The Supreme Court issued contempt notices against the three Amrapali directors remanded to police custody on Tuesday and ordered them to sift through documents over 15 days beginning Friday under police supervision to enable auditors to find out where Rs 2,600 crore collected from homebuyers in the developer’s projects had disappeared.

The three —Anil Kumar Sharma, Shiv Priya and Ajay Kumar — were taken into custody to force them to cooperate with a court order that asked them to provide accounts to financial auditors. The Supreme Court bench comprising justices UU Lalit and DY Chandrachud ordered them to examine the documents with the help of their former and current financial auditors along with other staff. “We want to know where the Rs 2,600 crore collected from homebuyers disappeared.

We want to know who was responsible,” justice Lalit said. The bench issued suo motu contempt notices to the trio for failing to abide by court orders for the last five to six months. If convicted of contempt, they can go to jail for six months. The court had asked for financial records of the 46 odd companies they run relating to transactions in the last 10 years.

“We have been asking you for months now. You have been very, very recalcitrant,” justice Lalit said. “We have burnt our fingers.”
