The BJP on Wednesday welcomed the formation of an expert committee by the Supreme Court to investigate the Pegasus issue.

"The government in its affidavit had categorically stated to the Supreme Court that we are also of the opinion that in order to counter the false narrative of certain vested interest groups, it would be fair if we establish a committee of experts and they look into this whole issue," BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra told media persons on Wednesday. "This is exactly what has happened today on the floor of the Supreme Court."

Patra also said that the entire controversy around the Pegasus is a manufactured one, based on certain conjectures, surmises and unsubstantiated reports.

"Now since the committee has been formed it will investigate these things. BJP is a democratic party, and we believe in the process of democracy," he added.

Attacking the Congress, Patra said the Congress party hadn't gone to the court on the issue.

"Does Congress have faith in courts? There were several occasions in the past when the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi had attacked the Supreme Court of India," Patra added.

He also said that the Congress behaved undemocratically when Union minister Ashwini Vaishnav made a statement on the issue in Parliament.
