SC asks Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily from October 7 to 18
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Karnataka government to release 2,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu from October 7 to 18 as an interim arrangement.

The bench deputed a high-powered committee to assess the ground situation in the Cauvery basin by the next court hearing. The panel will comprise representatives of all riparian states.

The order came amid claims by the Tamil Nadu counsel that Karnataka was deficit in meeting the water requirement of the state for September by at least 4,000 million cubic feet.

Karnataka said that it will release 36,000 cusecs by October 5 evening as earlier directed. However, it said it will not be able to release more than 1,500 cusecs daily without affecting its water supply.
