The Supreme Court on Thursday asked former top court Judge A K Patnaik to enquire into allegations of widespread bench hunting and fixing which was part of the alleged larger conspiracy to target CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

Justice Patnaik will be assisted by the CBI chief and IB chief and the Delhi Commissioner of Police.

Lawyer Utsav Bains had claimed that some sacked court staff had ganged up to target CJI Gogoi. A former lady officer of the court had accused the CJI Ranjan Gogoi of sacking her after she resisted harassment . The SC has denied the charges as an afterthought.

Those charges will be probed by the in house panel separately. Justice Patnaik will conclude his enquiry as soon as possible.
