Save Democracy Rally: Sonia Gandhi leads Congress attack on government
NEW DELHI: The Congress escalated its attack on the BJP government on Friday with party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi leading a rally to Parliament to check the Narendra Modi-led government’s “attempts to subvert democracy”.

The Congress hit back with the “Loktantra Bachao” rally after the BJP had accused the Opposition top brass of their alleged involvement in the AgustaWestland helicopter deal when Congress was in power at the Centre.

Hundreds of Congress workers, led by Sonia, Rahul and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, gathered at Jantar Mantar for the protest rally. The Congress leaders, including Sonia, Rahul, Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad and AK Antony, courted arrest as they tried to break the police barricades and march towards Parliament. They were detained for a few minutes. Speaking at the rally, Congress president took a direct swipe at Modi and the party’s ideological mentor RSS.
