Saudi Arabia likely to withdraw envoy facing rape probe
NEW DELHI: The Gurgaon Police has confirmed rape and sodomy of the two Nepalese women who were in the flat of a senior Saudi Arabian diplomat in Gurgaon.

A report emailed to the foreign ministry after a second medical examination of the women who were rescued from the diplomat’s apartment on Monday night confirmed rape and sodomy, said Rajesh Chechi, ACP (Crime) of Gurgaon Police.

The report contained “elaborate description” of the sequence of events including the rescue of the two women and registration of an FIR in the case, he said. The ministry will initiate follow up action on Thursday based on the report.

Officials indicated to ET that Saudi Arabia may withdraw the first-secretary rank diplomat if found guilty after a detailed probe. The Saudi ambassador may be summoned.

The ambassador may be advised to take action as he enjoys diplomatic immunity under Vienna Convention. “We are extracting the CCTV recordings from the apartment premises and the process (to ascertain how many men were involved in rape) is likely to take around 12 hours.”
