Saturday was incidentally Kolkata���s hottest day in seven years as the mercury shot past 42 Celesius and touched 42.1. And with humidity at 87 per cent, one was dripping.

The director of the Alipore meteorological office G.C.Debnath said that they a heat wave warning has issued been and the sweltering heat is likely to continue for the next 24 hours.

In 2002, Kolkata had experienced the highest temperature of 43 degree Celsius. And, way back in 1958, the Alipore met office had recorded 43.7 degree.
