Sarpanch shot at by suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir

Security forces have immediately cordoned off the village and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants.

SRINAGAR: Asarpanchwas critically injured in a suspected militant attack inSoporetownship of north Kashmir'sBaramulladistrict today, police said.

Khazir Mohammad was seriously injured after he was shot at by some unidentified militants while he was coming out of a local mosque after offering Friday prayers in his Kranki Shivan village, 55 kms from here, they said.

The injured sarpanch was admitted to hospital. Security forces have immediately cordoned off the village and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants, police said.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident, they added.
