GUWAHATI: Assam which is lagging behind in the roll out of Aadhar card is expected to start the process by December this year. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered the construction of Namgarhs (vashnavite monasteries) in the Assam Bhawan across the country.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said Aadhar Card by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) would roll out from December 1, 2017 whereby biometric and demographic data will be collected of the people in the state.

The whole process would be completed within one year as it would mark bringing Assam into the Aadhar system.

Chief Minister said that local vendors must be engaged in the data collection for Aadhar and they should be given an opportunity to find employment through the whole process that entails the expenditure of 160 crore rupees for providing Aadhar Card to 3 crore 18 lakhs people of the state.

The Chief Minister also remarked that Aadhar Card would benefit those students going to study outside the state where Aadhar is mandatory for admission into educational institutes and asked Department to ensure completion of the process within one year.

He also asked the Department to undertake massive awareness campaigns through street plays and short films for making the people aware about the importance of AadharCard in the state.

He directed for taking action for construction of Namghars at all Assam Bhawan premises in the country in line with Kolkata Assam Bhawan.

Chief Minister was apprised in a meeting that the construction of 4 stories of Assam Bhawan at Vellore, Tamilnadu has been completed

Sonowal further stressed on implementation of the Bodoland Village Council Act, 2012 before the forthcoming panchayat election.

Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia informed that already a cabinet sub-committee under the leadership of State Industry & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has been constituted which will submit its report soon.
