Sarangi Mahajan refuses to undergo surgery in Pravin's absence

MUMBAI: Sarangi Mahajan, wife of Pravin Mahajan, who is currently serving life sentence for killing his brother and senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, has refused to undergo a surgery till her husband is not released on parole.

Sarangi's brother Rasad Pullewar said Sarangi is determined to wait for Pravin's return and has decided to undergo surgery for a gynaecological problem only after Pravin is released on parole.

Pravin had filed an application in July this year before the Nashik divisional commissioner seeking to be released on parole as he had already spent two years in prison.

Under the criminal justice system, a convict can be released on parole for a period ranging from 15 days to two months after completion of two years in jail.

The plea was, however, rejected by the commissioner following a report submitted by the Worli police station in central Mumbai stating that if Pravin is released he might be a danger to Pramod's family.

"Pravin's parole was rejected on the basis of the negative report from the Worli police station where the case is registered, which stated that Pravin would be a threat to Pramod's wife Rekha Mahajan, daughter Poonam and brother-in-law Gopinath Munde," Pullewar told PTI.

He further said that they would approach the Bombay High Court challenging the Nashik divisional commissioner's order and seek for parole.
