Saradha scam: CBI grills Congress MP Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury
KOLKATA: The CBI today interrogated Congress MP Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury who had written to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam about the misdeeds of such companies raising funds from the public, but which he later withdrew.

Chowdhury, who represents West Bengal's Malda South Lok Sabha constituency and is brother of late Congress leader Ghani Khan Chowdhury, was subject to interrogation for nearly three hours by the Special Crime Branch of CBI probing the multi-crore Saradha scam.

CBI sources said that Chowdhury was asked why he withdrew his letter to the PM, to which he replied, "I did that because these firms, including Saradha, were doing real estate business and not working as chit funds raising money from the public."

The sources said that he might be again subject to interrogation if the agency felt it was needed.
