Saradha chit fund scam: WBPCC files PIL demanding CBI inquiry

The scam, to the tune of thousands of crores of Rupees, came to light after the collapse of Saradha Group, one of the major players in the chit fund business.

KOLKATA: A PIL was filed before Calcutta High Court today on behalf of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Lawyers Cell seeking a CBI inquiry under the supervision of the court into the chit fund scam that has hit millions of small-time investors.

Seeking a CBI probe into the scam, the petitioner prayed that names of all those involved in it be disclosed by the agency.

The petitioner also prayed for an interim order that the government be directed to take immediate steps to ensure that 25 per cent of money deposited by investors be immediately refunded to them.

The petition is likely to be moved before the division bench presided by Chief Justice Arun Mishra on May 2.
