KOLKATA: It is still not clear who leaked Saradha group chairman Sudipta Sen's letter to CBI, though the finger of suspicion points to Sen, as well as Trinamool leader Mukul Roy.

The police, CBI, lawyers and Trinamool leaders ET spoke to gave no clear answers. Both police and CBI denied their role. The prevalent opinion in the legal fraternity is that the letter's release was timed to save the Saradha chief from mob fury.

"Everything appears well planned. The letter was released a day after Sen's arrest, though it was written as early as April 6. It seems there was manipulative pressure on Sen to write the letter. Everything is shrouded in mystery," said JN Chatterjee, a senior criminal lawyer.

TC circles pointed fingers at Roy. His detractors in the party alleged he handed over the letter to the media to get even with peers in the battle of attrition, a feature in the party. Efforts to contact Roy proved futile.
