Saradha case: Another Trinamool MP under CBI investigation

KOLKATA: Another Trinamool Congress MP has been brought under the investigation ambit by the CBI.

The sleuths, prima facie, have found that the MP was a top boss in a UAE-based company. This company, which was allegedly used to launder Saradha money, is also facing a probe. The MP had earlier denied any link with the UAE-based firm claiming his role was only honorary in nature and he had quit the post before entering politics.

The MP is reportedly facing another CBI investigation where a chargesheet is expected after the Assembly polls in J&K and Jharkhand get over. "We might need to summon the MP in the Saradha case. We are trying to gather evidence against him. We'll send the summons only after we get to a more mature state," said a source.

Asif Khan, former Trinamool leader and an ex-aide of a senior leader from the same party, had earlier hinted at 122 highly-placed beneficiaries of the Saradha scam and this MP was one of them.

Sources said CBI had first come across the name in the CD by arrested MP Kunal Ghosh. "I once heard that at the fag end of Saradha there was a meeting in Delhi where the proposal was that he (this MP) will help Saradha financially and all its agents will be working for his company. In Delhi, this MP, (a top TMC leader) and Rajat Majumdar held meetings. Probe agencies must interrogate him for more details," Ghosh had stated in his CD.

The CBI may also ask at least two serving senior police officers and an administrative top gun to explain their role in the Saradha scam. The sources said the agency has decided to complete its massive operation of collecting documents as early as July 31. TOI has reported that the agency has prepared a list of politicians who will be questioned for their alleged involvement in the scam in the days ahead.
