Sanjay Raut, Rajya Sabha MP of Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray faction, has alleged that chief minister Eknath Shinde's son, Lok Sabha MP Shrikant Shinde, planned to 'eliminate' him. Raut has written a letter to Union home minister Amit Shah, deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and the Mumbai and Thane Police Commissioners, accusing Shrikant of giving a contract to a Thane gangster to kill him .

"We can protect ourselves. However, I just wanted to tell them (the government) of what is happening in the state. It is my duty to tell the government what their MPs are up to. Gangsters are being let on bail and given the task to kill me," Raut claimed.

As per Raut, the gangster is one Raja Thakur. The Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) slammed Raut for the allegation and claimed accusations were made to ensure that his police security was restored. "This is a very irresponsible statement made to spoil a person's (Shrikant) image. Raut has gained a reputation of making outlandish claims without any shred of evidence. Even then, the police will probe it; he has done this to get police security," said minister Shambhuraj Desai.
