Sanjay Dutt spends another day in jail
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt spent another day in jail weaving cane strips to make furniture while he waited to be released on bail from a prison.
Supreme Court on Monday ordered Dutt released citing a technicality, weeks after he was sentenced to six years in prison for illegal possession of weapons supplied by men convicted of involvement in Mumbai's 1993 blasts that killed 257 people.
Authorities were likely to release Dutt from Pune's Yerwada Jail later Wednesday after receiving a certified copy of the Supreme Court order, said an official who spoke on condition of anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media.
Outside the prison, some 350 fans gathered in hopes of seeing Dutt as he was released. Several fans had been there since Monday when the Supreme Court granted him bail.
``It's good he is being released,'' said Yogesh Jadhav, a 20-year-old college student who skipped classes to be at the prison. ``I hope they don't cancel the order. That's what I'm worried about.''
Dutt and five others, convicted in the same case linked to the Mumbai 1993 blasts, were granted bail because they had not been given a copy of their sentences by the Mumbai court that convicted them. All will have to return to prison once they receive copies of the sentence.
Dutt has been at Yerwada, since Aug 1.
