Sangh Parivar to document icons’ role in state-building
The Sangh Parivar has launched a mega project to document the contributions of thinkers, leaders and reformers from a wide range of ideological and intellectual schools in shaping Maharashtra.
Vivek, a Marathi weekly from the RSS stable, is piloting the mega project that will honour even those from outside the Parivar. The organisation is coming out with an encyclopaedia in 12 volumes that would immortalise the roles of Maharashtra builders between 1835 and 2006.
The project blueprint is so ideologically eclectic that it would not only talk about the role of the Parivar ideological fountainhead Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, but also honourably place on record the other end of the spectrum in the form of Jyotiba Phule and BR Ambedkar. The volumes would probably for the first time bring to light the notable roles played by some of the countless unsung heroes in different fields.
“It’s a mammoth project that would help put together the role played by as many as 5,000 people in shaping Maharashtra during the select period. A proof of the wide ideological compass that the project would take is that it would not only record the contributions of Maharashtrians, but also persons from other lingual and regional communities who have played key roles,” said managing editor of the project Dilip Karambalekar at a press conference to inaugurate it.
The first volume of the encyclopaedia, titled ‘Shilpakaar Charitrakosh’ (biography of architects), would come out in October. Vivek has engaged 11 teams to conduct research, field visits, interviews, discussions, and compilation of information for the volumes. Actual work started last year with the 11 teams spreading out in different regions of the state for the fieldwork. To make the voluminous work authoritative and of permanent shelf value, eminent personalities from different walks of life have been engaged to assess the work before it goes for final documentation.
