JAMMU: An organisation spearheading agitation against the government's decision to revoke transfer of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has called Jammu bandh on July 16 on the issue.

The Samiti will also demand recall of the state Governor N N Vohra.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of nearly 30 affiliates of SS here last evening, the convenor of the Samiti Leela Karan Shrma said.

The Samiti had given seven days ultimatum to the government to concede its demands for restoration of 39.88 hectares of forest land to the shrine board. The ultimatum is expiring on July 15, he said, adding that people all over the province have been asked to observe complete bandh, which also includes chakka jaam.

Initially, the Jammu bandh was called by BJP on the issue on June 30. The bandh was supported by several social, religious and trade organisation. Sangarsh Samiti was set up the same day to spearhead the agitation.

The bandh was later extended till July 8 and suspended for a week with an ultimatum to the government to concede its demands.

The authorities had also imposed curfew in Jammu city and towns of Bhaderwah, Samba and Kathua on July 1 and 2 respectively in the wake of massive protests and clashes between police and demonstrators.

However, curfew was lifted in all these areas on July 8.
