New Delhi: From joint sitting of Parliament to carrying out Samvidhan yatra across the country, the BJP-led NDA government is going all out to commemorate 75th anniversary of constitution day, drawing lessons from 2024 polls the saffron party working overtime to showcase its commitment to the legal document.

In run upto 2024 Lok Sabha polls opposition especially Congress succeeded in cornering the BJP accusing that that if saffron party came to power it would amend the constitution.

The Congress constitution narrative helped it in increasing its tally and checking saffron party from crossing majority mark.


Thereafter, Modi government has been trying hard to ensure especially people from marginalised section of the society its commitment to constitution.

In June this year, Modi government declared June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' (Constitution Murder Day), to mark the anniversary of emergency, to both counter and hit back Congress on the issue of constitution.

A host of programmes and events are being planned at large scale. And four Union Ministries Culture and Tourism, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Justice are involved in this exercise.

A special joint sitting of both houses of Parliament is likely to be held on November 26 to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India.

The joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha is likely to be held in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan, where the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on November 26, 1949 and it came into effect on January 26, 1950.

Government is also looking to release a series of anecdotes related to dalit icon and fatheor of constitution BR Ambedkar while he was drafting the legal document, sources said.

Similarly, a nationwide Samvidhan Yatra is also under consideration to mark the historic ocassion. Its details and nitty-gritty are still being discussed, they said.

The government is also looking to translate constituent assembly debates in 22 languages and several documentaries also being planned for this ocassion, sources added.

From 2024 Lok Sabha polls the constitution has become one of the regular features of political narrative in the country as both ruling and opposition try to target each other over it.

Earlier, November 26 used to be celebrated as National Law Day. In 2015, on the 125th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, the government announced November 26 as Constitution Day to encourage people to follow the constitutional values.
