Samples of Brahmaputra water sent to IIT Guwahati for testing

GUWAHATI: With Brahmaputra water turning black and muddy in some parts of the State samples has been sent Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad and IIT- Guwahati testing.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed Director General of Fire Services to collect the samples.

Director General of Fire Services, AP Rawat sent water samples from 15 locations to Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad and IIT, Guwahati to test the water and zero in on the causes responsible for the development.

According to state government, “Upon finding the responsible causes the report would be submitted to the State Government for it to take remedial steps. Following the incident, State Government also brought the incident to the notice of the Central Government.”

Siang river in Arunachal Pradesh has become muddy and black. Siang originates in Tibetan glacier and flows in Arunachal Pradesh, the river meets the Brahmaputra in Sadiya in Assam.
