Samiti asks govt not to delay implementation of agreement

The group that spearheaded a two- month long agitation for transfer of land to Amarnath Shrine Board on Saturday asked the J-K government not to delay the implementation of an agreement inked by the two sides.

JAMMU: The group that spearheaded a two- month long agitation for transfer of land to Amarnath Shrine Board on Saturday asked the J-K government not to delay the implementation of an agreement inked by the two sides, warning that any "dilly dallying" would force them to revive the stir.

"Though the core issue of restoration of land to the shrine board was addressed by the government, yet the co-related issues with the agitation are being delayed by the authorities," the spokesperson of the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti Narinder Singh said.

He said that governor's panel headed by the Advisor S S Bloeria had assured withdrawal of all cases against the agitators, including those registered under Public Safety Act.

Besides, it was also promised that a high-level committee headed by Principal Secretary (Home) would review all the cases, he said.

However, nothing has been done in this direction so far. "We cannot understand the reasons for not activating this committee in order to deal with the issue seriously," Singh, who was also part of the Samiti's four member negotiating committee, said.

However, he appreciated the government's action to transfer some police officers in Jammu region as demanded by the Samiti.

He said the convenor of the Samiti Leela Karan Sharma has already made it clear that government should act seriously and fulfill all the demands. "If government adopts dilly dallying tactics on our demands, the Samiti may think of reviving the agitation," Singh cautioned.

The stir that paralysed life in Jammu region finally ended on August 31 after the two sides inked an agreement allowing the Board to use the land in Kashmir during yatra period.
