Samajwadi Party to hold strategy session to galvanise party for 2017 polls

LUCKNOW: Top Samajwadi Party leaders will hold a brain-storming session here tomorrow to formulate its strategy for 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls and galvanise the party cadre.

The focus of the meet, the first of the ruling party's newly constituted state executive, will be to associate youths with the party and hold training camps for them in which they would be told how to highlight achievements of the SP government, a senior party leader said today.

"The first meeting of the executive will be held tomorrow and the main focus will be to devise ways to repeat its grand performance of 2012. Besides party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ramgopal Yadav, state party chief Akhilesh Yadav and other senior leader will attend the meet," SP general secretary Arvind Singh Gope said.

Samajwadi Party had won 224 seats in the 403-member Assembly in the 2012 state polls.

The state government has done a lot of work in the past three years of Akhilesh Yadav regime and has implemented party's manifesto besides launching welfare schemes like distribution of laptops, which no other state could even think of, he said.

"Now our focus will be on hilighting them and propagating good work done by us. We will discuss how to go about it," Gope said.

UP Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters in Azamgarh that SP leaders would compare the development works in the constituencies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Varanasi) and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav (Azamgarh) in the past one year.

"Those who had come to power making promises of all kinds have not been able to fulfill even one of those during eight months' time," he said, accusing BJP at the Centre of making false promises to grab power.
