MUMBAI: A Samajwadi Party candidate was today booked for allegedly distributing cash to voters in her ward ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls.

The matter came to light after a video purportedly showing Ayesha Shaikh, candidate from ward No 140, Gautamnagar, in suburban Govandi, offering cash was circulated.

Taking cognisance, State Election Commission officials asked Deonar police to register an FIR against her, a senior police officer said.

Police registered a case under section 171 B (bribery to induce voting) and other relevant sections of IPC, he said.
