NEW DELHI: Junior doctors at the government- run Safdarjung hospital in the capital today went on a strike after a relative of a patient allegedly assaulted a physician.

The junior doctors stopped attending patients at the OPD from this morning in protest against the alleged assault on a physician by the relative of a patient, Resident Doctors Association General Secretary Rohit Tyagi told PTI.

The incident took place last night.

"We got to know about the incident this morning and decided to go on strike. Such incidents once again highlight the issue of safety of doctors," he said.

However, the emergency and ICU services remain unaffected.
