Sacked Tata Steel executive shoots senior manager dead

A sacked Tata Steel employee barged into a senior manager’s room and shot him dead at point-blank range at the company’s stockyard in Faridabad on Friday morning. The suspect fled brandishing his pistol and is absconding.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the manager, Arindam Pal, was resting in his cabin early in the afternoon when the suspect, Vishwas Pandey, stormed in and fired five rounds at him. Police said Pal died on the spot.

Pandey, an engineering graduate, was an executive manager in the company. He was sacked earlier this year after an inquiry initiated by his supervisor, Pal, had found him guilty of indiscipline.


Police said Pandey had been out of a job after being sacked and had visited the office several times seeking reinstatement. He had also threatened Pal with dire consequences while serving his notice period with the company.

After the shooting, other employees at the stockyard had tried to stop Pandey from getting away, but he threatened to shoot them as well, police said. Mujesar SHO Ashok Kumar said the shooting took place around 1pm at Tata’s Hardware Chowk office.

Pal’s body has been sent to a government hospital for an autopsy. “We have recovered some CCTV footage which shows the suspect. Efforts are being made to track him down,” Ashok Kumar said.

A case of murder has been registered and a manhunt launched to nab Pandey. He was found missing from his house near Gurgaon.
