NEW DELHI: A day ahead of President Vladimir Putin's visit here, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei B Ivanov on Wednesday called on Prime Miniser Manmohan Singh here and discussed ways to further enhance bilateral relations.

PMO sources said the meeting was a "courtesy call".

Earlier in the day, Ivanov, who is also the Russian Defence Minister, held a series of meetings with his Indian counterpart A K Antony, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and National Security Advisor M K Narayanan.

Ivanov and Antony also chaired the sixth meeting of the Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation.

The two leaders signed a protocol of intent for joint development and production of a medium-sized multi-role transport aircraft (MTA). An agreement and a contract for licensed production of RB-33 aero-engines for MiG-29 fighters were also signed in their presence.

The Russian side also formally positioned its MiG-35 for IAF's quest to acquire 126 multi-role combat aircraft.
