MOSCOW: Russia cherishes its strategic partnership with India as both countries have convergent global interests and share common responsibility for maintaining international security and stability, President Vladimir Putin said here on Tuesday.

"We cherish the strategic partnership with India. It is one of the centres of economic growth and influence in an emerging multi-polar world," Putin said while accepting the credentials of the Indian Ambassador Prabhat Praksh Shukla here at a ceremony in the Kremlin's ornate Alexander Hall.

Putin also assured that in spite of the ongoing reconfiguration of state power in his country in the wake of December 2 Duma polls and forthcoming presidential election in March next the foreign policy priorities of Russia will remain unchanged.

Highly valuing the results achieved during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Moscow visit last month, Putin underscored: "we are united by convergence in our global interests and our common responsibility for maintaining international security and stability."

Welcoming Ambassador Shukla, independent India's 19th envoy to his country since 1947, the Russian president expressed confidence that the upcoming Year of Russia in India and Year of India in Russia in 2009, will serve to further deepen the bilateral relations between the two countries practically in all walks of life.
