Russia accuses Georgia of preparing guerrilla attacks
A top Russian general on Saturday accused Georgia of preparing guerrilla attacks in South Ossetia, the separatist territory controlled by Russian troops.
"They are preparing further actions," General Anatoly Nogovitsyn told journalists. "Georgia's special services are creating arms caches and stocks of supplies with the aim of preparing armed attacks in the conflict zone, including carrying out diversionary acts in South Ossetia."
Nogovitsyn, who is deputy chief of general staff, did not provide evidence of the alleged build-up. Russian troops entered Georgia on August 8 and now control all of South Ossetia and a second separatist region Abkhazia, as well as forward positions along the country's main highway and outside the main commercial port.
