MUMBAI: Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao today flagged off Run for Unity here on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary, being celebrated as "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas".

Maharashtra chief minister-designate Devendra Fadnavis led the two-km long run for unity.

Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal and Raosaheb Danve also took part in the race.

Prior to the start of the event, the Governor administered a "Rashtriya Ekatmata Pledge" to the participants of the race.

The run started from the Air India building here and culminated near Parsi Gymkhana on Marine Drive.
