Huge ruckus prevailed in the West Bengal Assembly as Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and other BJP MLAs shouted slogans, tore speech copies and walked out of the House even as Adhikari's speech remained incomplete.

Speaker Biman Banerjee said, “I reserve the right to move a privilege motion against Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari for allegedly casting aspersions on the functions of the Speaker and insulting the assembly.”

A Privilege Motion was brought for suspension of LoP Suvendu Adhikari by senior Trinamool MLA Tapas Ray. However, the motion was withdrawn as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee apologized on behalf of the House and the opposition.

The Speaker told ET that it is the sheer liberal attitude of the Chief Minister who apologized in the House even on behalf of the Opposition. “As Chief Minister apologized, I told the MLA to withdraw the motion. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari should learn a lesson from the Chief Minister.”

Adhikari had alleged that the state government had been diverting funds and IAS and IPS officials were helping the government in such activities.

During his speech, Adhikari claimed that there is diversion of funds to various government schemes. “Funds worth Rs 1.73 crore have been diverted in midday meals. In Rampurhat, cheques were distributed. A section of IPS and IAS officers are helping the process,” Adhikari said.

Adhikari started delivering his speech, criticising the governor's inaugural address. Adhikari also alleged that the state government in a way compelled Governor C V Ananda Bose to speak “the half truth” and “false” speech, which was written by the state government.

Following his statement, the Trinamool MLAs protested, following which chaos prevailed in the House.

Later, during her speech, Mamata Banerjee condemned Adhikari's conduct in the House.
