RSS UP functionary asks Yogi government to repent on Gorakhpur deaths

NEW DELHI: An RSS functionary in Uttar Pradesh has taken the Yogi Adityanath government to task over the Gorakhpur deaths, saying the state government cannot escape moral responsibility of the same.

"Whoever may be the culprit, the state government cannot escape moral responsibility. For this, all ministers in the state government and members of the BJP organisation should do prayaschit (repentance)," Prabhu Narayan, the RSS Prant Sanghchalak of the Awadh region wrote in a post on his Facebook page. He asked the government to hold a 'Repentance Day' and asked why one should not repent on this sensitive issue for a day when politicians celebrate a Shaurya Diwas or Protest Day.

"By only making a few people a scapegoat after a probe will not serve the purpose," he wrote.


Narayan said he was saddened by the remarks made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh at a press conference regarding the Gorakhpur deaths.

"It is right that the intentions of the present Chief Minister are good but it was not proper to cite statistics of previous deaths in the press conference," Narayan has written in his Facebook post. He said the entire country had been shocked by the deaths in Gorakhpur. Over 60 children died in Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital last week over 5 days, including some allegedly due to oxygen shortage.
