Any revision must address competing concerns, maintain social harmony: RSS

New Delhi: RSS has termed UGC's anti-discrimination regulations 'unbalanced', suggesting that the government must ensure that any framework revision addresses competing concerns and maintains social harmony.

The intervention comes as BJP heads towards assembly elections in UP, where the regulations had emerged as a major political flashpoint before the Supreme Court stepped in.

Addressing a press conference in Indore on Saturday, ahead of the RSS' 3-day Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal meeting, Sangh's national publicity chief Sunil Ambekar was asked about the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026.

"The RSS has made its position clear that the circular was unbalanced. The authorities' attention was drawn towards it, and the government also took note. The court has put the regulations on hold, and the matter is sub judice," he said. "We believe that whatever decision is taken going forward must be balanced. The government must ensure this, and the matter should also be pursued in the same direction before the court." He added: "We should keep our society strong. If we stay together, I feel that solutions to such problems will also emerge."

The regulations, notified on January 13, were stayed by the top court on January 29, directing that the earlier 2012 framework continue in the interim.
