RSS' Farmers' Union hails Govt MSP committee, pushes for "remunerative price" for produce

The RSS' farmers' wing Bharatiya Kisan Sangh hailing the government's announcement of a committee headed by former agriculture secretary Sanjay Agarwal on the effectiveness of the MSP has demanded that the focus be on ensuring remunerative price for the farmers.

Senior member of the BKS Pramod Chaudhary who is also a member of the committee said the organisation was clear that farmers' welfare was not separate from national welfare. "The committee will look into all the issues that haunt today's Indian farmer be it increase in the use of pesticides to agricultural losses."

The committee already has a mandate to discuss crop diversification and natural farming, and can be expanded if the members feel a need, he added.


BKS organisation secretary Dinesh Kulkarni said that the focus should be on ensuring remunerative prices for the farmers and giving at least some form of government guarantee on the MSP.

To make the farmers of the country feel enthusiastic about 75 years of India's independence, BKS along with Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Bharatiya Agro Economic Research Centre will organise an international conference on best features of Bharatiya agricultural practices on July 22 and 23 that will see the participation of agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar and RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale.
