CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has allocated Rs 717.32 crore for implementing integrated drinking water projects in Tiruppur, Erode, Thanjavur and Coimbatore districts, to benefit over 10 lakh people.

An integrated drinking water project at a cost of Rs 495.70 crore would be implemented with Kollidam river as the source in Thanjavur district, a state government press release said today.

A maintenance fund of Rs 9.19 crore has also been allotted towards this scheme.

Another project with Bhavani river as a source would be implemented in Coimbatore district at a cost of Rs 130.46 crore with an additional maintenance fund of Rs 3.91 crore, it said.

People in Tiruppur district would benefit from the project, for which water would be sourced from Cauvery river at a cost of Rs 91.16 crore, it said. A maintenance fund of Rs 3.52 crore has also been allotted, it added.
