Rs 33 lakh cash in 2,000 rupee notes seized; 5 held

MUMBAI: Five persons were detained after Rs 33 lakh in 2,000 rupee notes was seized in two separate cases in Navi Mumbai and Ulhasnagar in Thane, police said today.

In Navi Mumbai, two persons were held after seizure of the new notes worth Rs 23.70 lakh, while three persons were held in Ulhasnagar after Rs 9.76 lakh in Rs 2,000 denomination was recovered last evening, they said.

In the case of the Navi Mumbai seizure, the Koparkhairane police said those taken into custody have not been able to answer queries regarding possession of the notes.
