Rs 2,000 cr proposed labour budget under MGNREGA in Jammu and Kashmir: Mohammad Sagar

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government has proposed an amount of Rs 2,000 crore as labour budget under the Mahatama Gandhi National Rozgar Employment Gaurantee Act (MGNREGA) for the coming fiscal year in the state.

During a high-level meeting convened under the chairmanship of Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Ali Mohammad Sagar here it was also decided that a separate Directorate of Social Audits will be set up to ensure full transparency in the implementation of the scheme.

Sagar said that the funds earmarked under the MGNREGA scheme should be utilised to the maximum so that more projections can be made for the coming fiscal year.

The Minister also directed the Commissioner Secretary to conduct tours of different villages across the state in order to have on-the-spot assessment of the works being undertaken under the scheme.
