Air India has paid over Rs 14 crore as interim compensation to families of the victims of last month's plane crash at Mangalore.

MUMBAI: Air India has paid over Rs 14 crore as interim compensation to families of the victims of last month's plane crash at Mangalore.

The airline has paid Rs 14.06 crore to the families of 151 victims of the Air India Express plane crash at Mangalore Airport on May 22, an Air India spokesperson said here today.

Besides an interim compensation from Air India, the victims' family members and survivors have also received Rs 3.06 crore from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, he said.

Compensation to one family, however, is pending as the claimant is currently abroad. The amount would be paid to him as soon as he returns to the country, the spokesperson said.

The Mangalore-bound Air India Express aircraft from Dubai, with 166 passengers on-board, including six crew members, went down a ravine and burst into flames after the pilot overshot the runway.

As many as 158 persons were killed, while eight survived the worst air disaster in the country in a decade.
