NEW DELHI: The government spent Rs 1,190.53 crore on advertising through the Department of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) in 2015-16, Lok Sabha was informed today.

In an unstarred question in the House, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry was asked if the said amount had been spent on the publicity of various flagship schemes.

"The figure mentioned is the total expenditure of DAVP for the year 2015-16. This includes expenditure done by DAVP through all the mediums viz newspapers, audio-visual, print publicity, outdoor publicity and exhibition.

"This includes tender, classified, display classified, UPSC and all other advertisements released through DAVP on various government schemes, besides flagship welfare schemes," Minister of State for I&B Rajyavardhan Rathore said.

DAVP is the nodal agency to undertake multi-media advertising and publicity for various ministries and departments of government of India.
