Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased: Badal

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the next of the kin of those killed in the worst-ever temple tragedy in Himachal Pradesh, which left 145 dead and over 50 injured.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the next of the kin of those killed in the worst-ever temple tragedy in Himachal Pradesh, which left 145 dead and over 50 injured.

On getting the information about the incident, the chief minister immediately spoke to his counterpart in Himachal Pradesh Prem Kumar Dhumal and offered all possible help, Badal's Media Advisor Harcharan Bains said.

"The chief minister has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased and free medical aid to the injured," he said.

Badal has also directed the deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police, Ropar to reach Anandpur Sahib along with teams of doctors and paramedics to provide immediate first aid to the injured.

145 devotees, including 30 children, were killed and more than 50 injured in a stampede at the Naina Devi shrine in Himachal Pradesh following rumours of a landslide.
