RPI chief Ramdas Athawale meets family members of J Dey

RPI chief Ramdas Athawale today met family members of murdered senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey and gave them Rs one lakh financial assistance.

MUMBAI: Republican Party of India (RPI) chief Ramdas Athawale today met family members of murdered senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey and gave them Rs one lakh financial assistance at their residence in suburban Ghatkopar here.

"I met the grieving mother and sister of J Dey. J Dey's sacrifice is too big. The family needs moral as well as financial support," Athawale told PTI.

He also demanded a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh from the state government to Dey's family members, he said.

"Thirteen days have passed (but so far the police have not arrested the culprits. Mumbai Police is known for its efficiency in cracking down the cases at the earliest. But in this case they are taking time. They should make a breakthrough soon," he asserted.

Dey (56) was shot dead by four unidentified assailants in suburban Powai on June 11.
