Rotomac case: CBI quizzes 6 officials of Bank of Baroda

The agency had earlier arrested Rotomac Pens owner Vikram Kothari and his son Rahul in connection with the Rs. 3,695-crore loan default case.

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has quizzed six officials of Bank of Baroda in connection with the Rs. 3,695-crore bank fraud involving Rotomac case.

As per available information those examined include MD Mallya (then chairman and managing director of BoB), V Samthanaraman (then executive director of BoB) and RK Bakshi (then executive director of BoB), one director, one former deputy general manager and one general manager. The officials were questioned for three days.

The agency had earlier arrested Rotomac Pens owner Vikram Kothari and his son Rahul in connection with the Rs. 3,695-crore loan default case.


The agency, on February 19, had booked Rotomac Pen company and its directors on charges of cheating and wilfully defaulting on loans.

Vikram Kothari, his wife Sadhana Kothari and son Rahul Kothari — all directors — were booked by the CBI on charges of cheating a consortium of seven banks led by Bank of Baroda. Also, “unknown bank officials and private persons” have been booked by the CBI.

The total outstanding amount, according to the agency, is approximately Rs. 3,695 crore. The agency had sealed the office and house of Vikram Kothari’s residence, in New Delhi.

The criminal case was registered by the agency on a complaint given by Bank of Baroda. The bank in February last had declared the company a wilful defaulter. The company had got an order in its favour but had failed to repay the loans.

The company had taken a loan of more than Rs. 800 crore from five state-owned banks.
