SRINAGAR: A rocket was recovered by the Jammu and Kashmir police from an orchard where a 15 kg explosive was destroyed after being detected at a passenger shed at Khanabal chowk, official sources said on Saturday.

A three-foot rocket propelled grenade was recovered from an orchard in Khiram village of Anantnag district last evening, they said.

A team of ammunition experts has been asked to ascertain the type of the weapon, they added.

The rocket lay buried for a long time and did not have any markings to indicate its place of origin.

Security forces also detected an IED planted at a passenger shed at Khanabal, they said, adding, the 15-kg IED packed in a plastic can was later taken to an open area, where it was destroyed by a bomb disposal squad.

Security forces are on an alert in view of the intelligence inputs that militants might attempt to carry out attacks ahead of the R-day celebrations next week.
