The Delhi government has decided to improve all major road networks in rural areas including those in villages before the monsoon season, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has decided to improve all major road networks in rural areas including those in villages before the monsoon season, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

Dikshit said this after launching a road improvement project in Bawana area of North-West Delhi.

Blaming the municipal corporations for bad shape of the roads in rural areas of the city, Dikshit said the Delhi government has taken over more than 600 roads from the civic agency to ensure their better maintenance.

"The Delhi government has been striving hard to ensure uniform development in all parts of the capital city," Dikshit told a gathering.

Under the road development project, 100 kms of road network in West Delhi will be strengthened. The PWD plans to spend around Rs 400 crore to repair and relay the roads.

The project will cover improvement of roads from Mongolpuri to Kanjhawala, Kanjhawala Chowk to Auchandi border, Ghevra More to Kanjhawala, Kanjhawala Chowk to Bawana, Bawana to Narela, Narela to Singhu Border, G T Karnal Road to Bawana and Bawana to Auchandi Border.
