RMC first civic body in Gujarat to introduce water audit system

RAJKOT: Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has become the first civic body in Gujarat to introduce Real Time Bulk Water Audit System, the state water supply minister Vijay Rupani said here today while dedicating its first phase.

"RMC has become the first civic body in Gujarat to introduce the (water audit) system, where every drop of water would be audited by the officers of RMC's water works branch," Rupani said

"Supplying water at equal force to every connection holder has been the main concern for the civic body and the system will help the corporation to supply water at equal force to every connection holder," added Rupani.

The system is based on supervisory controlled and data acquisition system.

A special control room has been set up at RMC's central zone office where the officers would monitor the system.

"35 electromagnetic flow metres, 52 level sensors, 31 remote terminal units, 20 chlorine analysers have been installed at the pumping stations, overhead tanks and storage pumps," he said.

The first phase of the project cost is around Rs 3.99 crore and entire project would be completed in next five years, Rupani said.

The minister said the corporation is planning to provide round the clock water to the people of the city.

"Once the project will get completed, the civic body has a plan to supply drinking water round the clock besides it is also planning to install metre to every tap connection and charge according to the usage of the connection holder," Rupani said.

"This would help us to reduce the illegal water connections," he said.
