RLD's Ajit Singh asks UPA to withdraw its Lokpal Bill

RLD chief Ajit Singh said the UPA government should immediately withdraw its proposed Lokpal Bill and express willingness to present team Anna's draft in Parliament so as to end the impasse with the civil society.

LUCKNOW: RLD chief Ajit Singh today said the UPA government should immediately withdraw its proposed Lokpal Bill and express willingness to present team Anna's draft in Parliament so as to end the impasse with the civil society.

"It is correct that Parliamentary procedure is supreme, but it is the constitutional as well as the cultural right of the people to observe satyagrah and say what type of a Bill they want," Ajit told reporters here.

He said that the main reason behind the current impasse was lack of confidence.

"The manner in which the government back tracked again and again while dealing with team Anna has created a crisis of confidence," he said.

"It is not necessary that every bill goes to the standing committee," he said.

Ajit said that during the all party meeting yesterday all the non-UPA parties demanded the government to withdraw its Bill tabled in Parliament.

"Being adamant that we will bring our own bill is not right. The government should step forward, tell Anna to break his fast. By this, the government can give a message that it is serious on the issue," he said.

"We completely support Jan Lokpal Bill. As far as the issue of Prime Minister being covered under the ambit of Lokpal bill is concerned, almost everyone has supported it with certain conditions," he said.
