PATNA: Thousands of commuters were hit as expelled RJD leader Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav's supporters halted trains in Bihar on Sunday to protest violence against Bihari migrants in Manipur.

"Train services were affected for hours across the state," an official of the East Central Railway said.

According to reports reaching here, trains were halted in Ara, Madhubani, Gaya, Jehanabad, Vaishali, Chapra, Siwan, Madhepura, Saharsa, Purnea and Darbhanga districts.

Speaking in Patna, Pappu Yadav announced a march to the Raj Bhavan on Monday followed by Bihar shutdown.

Pappu Yadav's supporters looked for Manipuri passengers in the trains at various railway stations but failed to find any.

Pappu Yadav, who heads the Jan Adhikar Party (JAP), had called for a 'chakka jam' on September 6 in protest against the violence against Bihari migrants in Manipur.

He said last week: "If the situation did not improve or violence against Bihari migrants continued in Manipur, Manipuri passengers will be forcibly pulled out from trains running through Bihar and sent back."

He said both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were responsible for the situation in Manipur.

"Modi and Nitish Kumar should talk to the Manipur government immediately to stop the violence," he said, seeking protection for Biharis in Manipur.
