WASHINGTON: The United States has said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would "work very closely" with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on various issues of mutual concern.
"I'm sure that she's going to work quite well with him...He's a very accomplished individual. He brings with him a lot of experience to the job as Foreign Minister operating on a world stage," State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said here on Tuesday replying to a question.
"India is a very important partner for the United States. We are in the course of changing that relationship and deepening and broadening our ties. So I'm sure she's going to work very closely with him and looks forward to working with him on a number of different issues of mutual concern," he added.
The Statement of the State Department Spokesman comes at time when Congressional elections are over in the United States and the administration and Congressional leadership is hoping that the Senate will take up the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement in the Lame Duck session starting next week.
