Review of S-band spectrum deal still on, says ISRO chief

The head of ISRO Dr. K. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday evening said that the Antrix—Devas S-band spectrum deal was recommended to be annulled in 2010.

NEW DELHI: The head of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Dr. K. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday evening said that the Antrix—Devas S-band spectrum deal was recommended to be annulled in 2010 and the department of space is going through the process of reviewing the agreement.

"The decision relating to the process of contract termination was taken in July 2010. We are in the process of consultations," said Radhakrishnan.

"When we have to terminate a contract, it is a complex process, that is what we are going through, so that government does not incur damage or financial loss," said the ISRO chief.

He said as of now the contract is not terminated but the review was on since 2009.

"We have not given the spectrum to Devas," added Radhakrishnan

K. Kasturirangan, former ISRO chief, said the review only showed 'robustness of decision-making'. He said no time was wasted on the matter.
